  • 05/16/11--06:43: Comment on Roger M. Beattie by Jeffey C. Salloway (chan 1301446)
  • Roger Beattie Dr. Beattie was my friend. We grew up on the same streets of Boston, went to the same college and found one another at UNH. He taught me that it was an obligation to speak truth to power. He never hesitated to take a principled stand and to make that stand known to all - especially those who were in positions to enact change. He spoke truth to his students, to faculty, to administration. And we all became better people because of it. In his courage and commitment, he made the world a better place. What a lasting legacy! jcs

  • 05/16/11--07:26: Comment on Roger M. Beattie by Amanda Powell (chan 1301446)
  • I worked for the McNair Program for many years and knew Dr. Beattie as an advocate for many of the students who became McNair scholars. Dr. Beattie's office was right next door to mine in Stoke - in addition to conversations about students and education, we would share less "serious" conversations about cats, gardening, painting. He had a CD of Scottish bagpipes that he would play, often at my request. He had a picture of Marlon Brando from The Godfather taped to his desk (I never learned why) so I would often address him as "Don" Beattie, which never ceased to get a laugh from him. And anyone who knew Dr. Beattie knew that his laugh was infectious. He was very wise man, firmly committed to speaking his mind even if it meant speaking against others. His priority was always the best interests of students, not his own advancement or gain. He has changed hundreds and hundreds of lives through his dedication to creating a world where all people could obtain their goals, as many have because of him. He will be greatly missed.

  • 05/16/11--09:11: Comment on Roger M. Beattie by Lance Holland (chan 1301446)
  • I am a person of color who graduated from UNH in 2003. While I didn't know Dr. Beattie very well there is no mistaking the positive impact he had on UNH for all people of color. He was part of a larger and very important network of resources for people of color at UNH. If it were not for his work UNH would not have the level of diversity that it has today. Dr. Beattie's influence extended well beyond students of color. He was very well respected amongst his peers and the wider student body. His presence and influence at UNH will surely be missed.

  • 06/07/11--10:14: Comment on Healthy UNH WalkNH by Adwel Lo (chan 1301446)
  • What a pleasant day for a walk and how everyone is enjoying! It is vital in the 21st century as we become more reliant on computer technology to get up and leave the office or classroom and take a break in the outdoor air. Indoors we rapidly lose oxygen which makes us drowsy and in turn leads to ever poorer functioning. As our lives become increasingly sedentary we must learn to enjoy regular oxygenated breaks and healthy exercise.

  • 09/11/11--13:13: Comment on UNH Remembers Robert LeBlanc by Donald R. Tremblay (chan 1301446)
  • I grew up with Bob LeBlanc in Nashua, New Hampshire (where we were both born), went to school with him at St. Louis de Gonzague parish school, competed with him scholastically, and we both graduated from Nashua High School, Class of 1949. We last spoke at our 50th class reunion in Nashua, in October 1999. The memories linger on. Don Tremblay, Santa Monica, California

This event is open to the public. We want you to be there! I envision a teacher at a PTO meeting stating "Instead of going _____ on a field trip, we are going to Food Day at UNH!"
